Key Stage 3 Overview
- Investigative science is at the heart of the curriculum.
- The department follows the Hodder Scheme adapting it to ensure it meets the requirement of the new PoS.
- Pupils sit a short SATs based test every half term.
- The department took part in the ‘Assessing Pupil Progress’ pilot and will introduce it fully across the department from January 2009.
- ICT and innovative approaches to teaching & learning are at the centre of the student experience in the department.
Key Stage 4 Overview
- We offer a variety of courses to suit all pupils and ensure they have as many opportunities for further study or employment as possible.
- The courses offered are:
- Gateway Triple Science, Biology, Chemistry & Physics.
- Gateway Science and Additional Science.
- OCR Nationals Level 2, Award or Certificate.
- Successful completion of the above all lead to progression to level 3 courses.
They provide a stimulating curriculum which challenges pupils, develop analytical, numeracy, literacy and ICT skills, ensure scientific literacy and increases pupils knowledge and understanding of key scientific concepts and ideas. - Recent results in the science department at both KS3 & 4 have been outstanding and have exceeded expectations and FFTD targets.
