Phase One Music

Year 7 study a variety of musical topics with a particular emphasis on developing the voice. Topics covered are:

Gamelan music
Elvis
Beethoven
The Choir
Leitmotif introducing basic skills in rhythm
Composition
Using musical vocabulary
Basic recording technology and performing on the keyboard.

Year 8 further develop their vocal skills with a closer focus on performing. Other topics studied include:

The Waltz
Cover Versions
Adverts
The Music of India
Opera

The topics are all designed to reinforce the basic skills introduced in year 7, while developing further keyboard and compositional/ improvisation skills.

Year 9 follow a programme of study designed to focus and refine performance and compositional/ improvisation skills looking at a variety of topics including:

Musicals
Popular Song
The Blues and Jazz
Film music
Reggae
