Mrs Caroline Pauls - Leader of Learning in the Arts
Teacher of Phase 1 Art & Design and Phase 2 Fine Art
"I have loved drawing for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until high school that I realised I was actually really good at it, and wasn’t until I was completing my degree that I realised I wanted to teach it. Since then it has been my passion. I still get a great sense of joy and satisfaction when I’ve completed a piece of work – even if it is only an example for my classes! I feel it is important to communicate my love of art to every pupil and try to do this through my own work as an artist. I also love to look at each students work, particularly the GCSE sketchbooks. The older students often see me get squeaky and excited over certain pages in their sketchbooks! I really do believe I have the best and most rewarding job ever, because I get to be surrounded by art all day – I love it!"

"I came from a theatrical family. In fact, my Dad won my mother’s heart by quoting romantic bits from Shakespeare, on the bus. Both my parents spent their lives in amateur dramatics and I spent my childhood backstage getting to know the ins and outs of directing, stage management and performing. I like exploring how it works and am happiest directing and stage managing." - Mrs Todd

Mrs Leslie Thomas
Teacher of Phase 2 Drama
"Watching legendary thirties stars on our tiny black and white television set was my introduction to the magic of drama. Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and so many others took me into a world of imagination and human emotion which I thought I’d try for myself. Inspired also by an enthusiastic teacher, I dabbled with roles at school and in my teens I was fortunate to fall in with a band of local players who could perform at professional levels of stagecraft. Winning competitions, being praised by adjudicators all helped to strengthen my obsession and I greedily devoured whatever top class stage productions I could take in - Maggie Smith, Albert Finney, Tom Courtney and Shakespeare at Stratford."
"University gave me the chance to dig under the surface of the text and to explore the ground breaking work of the great innovators in drama. School teaching brought home the transformational impact of drama in the classroom. At Royds Hall, I see every day the impact of drama on the lives of my students, how they grow in confidence, how they learn to express themselves and how they are developing communication skills neede for life after school. Join them and you can rise above your shyness and stride forth with confidence." - Mrs Thomas
